RFC TAX NUMBER REMINDER
Reminder to all owners, once you receive an RFC number (Mexican taxation number) to please email us with the number for them to update your listing.

Send to: properties@pvrpv.com

By providing the RFC number future payments towards bookings will be at the lower retention amount as outlined in the image below.   If you forget to submit this information to us, we cannot go backward after the payments have been applied to a booking and retention amounts have been submitted to SAT (Mexican Tax Office).
THE FIRST STEP IN OBTAINING AN RFC
For owners looking to obtain an RFC to lower your tax retentions, the first step is to obtain your temporary or permanent residency.  Keep in mind, if you obtain your residency it does not impact your citizenship of your home country.

As we have recommended in the past, should you need assistance obtaining your residency, at the recommendation of other owners, we recommend using KL Mexico.  You may contact them with the following information:

THE SECOND STEP IN OBTAINING AN RFC
The Second step once you have obtained your temporary or permanent residency is to obtain your RFC # (Mexican Tax ID number).  This is currently not something you can apply for online.  You will have to visit a SAT (Mexican tax office) office in person.
FILING A TAX RETURN IN MEXICO
Once you have obtained both of these, you will need the assistance of an account to complete your tax returns.  Unlike in Canada or the USA, this is a very inexpensive service. They will ensure everything is filed properly and applicable deductions are taken into consideration.

As we have recommended in the past, should you need assistance with your taxes, at the recommendation of other owners, we recommend using Equilibrium Consulting. You may contact them with the following information:

RENTENTIONS
A FEW THINGS TO KEEP IN MIND ABOUT RETENTIONS:

- We, like all rental platforms / agencies, are obligated by Mexican Tax Law, to retain taxes on all payments of bookings.

- This is a retention of taxes, not a payment. The retention of taxes towards the income.

- Those with RFC, the ISR (income tax) retention is 4% and those without an RFC, the ISR (income tax) retention is 20%.

- Once these retentions have been paid / filed we cannot request back ISR retentions (Even in the event of a booking cancellation).

- In the event of a cancelled booking / guest refund, those with an RFC number, will be able to correct the ISR retentions when filing their monthly taxes with their accountant.  Those without an RFC number, will not be able to correct the ISR retentions already submitted.

- Property owners with an RFC will be able to claim expenses & operating costs against their ISR (income tax).

- Property owners without an RFC, the 20% ISR retentions are collected from those bookings and submitted to a general tax account with SAT (Mexican tax office).  Because there is no RFC (tax number) affiliated with that submission, there is no way to track those payments to use as a deduction in the future once you receive an RFC number.

Over the last couple of years their have been many changes to the Mexican tax law.  They are making every effort to make sure incomes made in Mexico pay taxes in Mexico.
