Hilary, which intensified to a hurricane early this morning August 17, 2023, reached category 2 on the Saffir-Simpson scale off the coast of Jalisco and will cause very heavy to heavy rains in 14 states of the country.
The cyclone went from category 1 to 2 hurricane at 540 kilometers southwest of Playa Pérula, Jalisco, and 805 km south-southeast of Cabo San Lucas, Baja California Sur. Hilary has maximum sustained winds of 165 kilometers per hour (km/h), gusts of 205 km/h and displacement towards the west-northwest at 22 km/h, informed the National Water Commission (Conagua).
Although at this time it does not appear to represent a major danger, we are taking the necessary precautions. Our property inspectors, maintenance team and maids are visiting properties to ensure terraces / balconies and outdoor spaces are secure. Light weight furniture, cushions and decorative item are being taken into the units and ensuring that the units doors / windows are secure for the storm.
According to the latest official statement from the authorities, the storm is forecast to be closest to Puerto Vallarta overnight from Friday to Saturday.
