Greetings, Friends and Welcome Home

Holiday in the SandAs we go to print, the holiday season is fast approaching. This is a magical time in Puerto Vallarta. The summer storms have moved on, ushering in cooler, drier winter weather. Sunsets are spectacular, and the streets of our little paradise are once again filling with visitors from all over the world.

US Thanksgiving is only a week away, and many local restaurants are getting ready to carve up the turkey, complete with all the trimmings.

Next comes the Christmas season. Every evening from December 1st. to the 12th., there are beautiful processions bound toward our famous Church of Our Lady of Guadalupe.

Of course, Vallarta will ring in the New Year with our annual street party on Olas Altas in the Zona Romántica, and an amazing fireworks display from one end of the bay to the other.

So let the revelry begin!

Here at PVRPV we too have much to celebrate. We have many new listings and lots of great deals to offer our ever growing list on customers. Help is on the Way

School SuppliesAs many of you know, funding for public schools, is a low priority for local government. Many students do not even have pencils, pens and note books with which to copy their lessons. PVRPV is again accepting donations of school supplies at our office, which will be distributed to needy classrooms throughout the city. Make a bit of room in your luggage and fill it with supplies, bring it to our office and together we can give a child a brighter future.

Some items of importance include:

Pens, pencils, lined note books, rulers, erasers, pencil crayons, math sets and of course back packs. All donations are desperately needed and warmly welcomed.

Philanthropy Continues

Hook For The Cure benefits the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation

Hook the CurePuerto Vallarta was the destination for anglers and golfers who participated in this years BJ's Restaurants Hook for The Cure tournament.

The third week of October brought two dozen boats and over 30 teams to the beautiful waters of the Bay of Banderas and reeled in a whopping $450,000.00. In three years Hook for the Cure has raised over $1'000,000.00 for Cystic Fibrosis, a disease affecting over 40,000 Americans and Mexicans.

Local host Villa Premier Hotel and Spa once again was the home for all participants and PVRPV provided the volunteers for the event.

Plans are underway for the Fourth Annual Hook for the Cure slated for November 5 - 8 2009. For more information visit www.hookthecure.org or visit our offices.

PVRPV at Hook the Cure 2008As most of you are aware PVRPV has always been involved in many different charities over the past years in Vallarta. This year, we have come up with a new way of raising funds for local charities. English Classes will be offered to Mexicans and the classes will take place in our new office.

At this time, the classes are being offered Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8:30am to 9:30am or from 6:00pm to 7:00pm. The total cost is $20.00 pesos per class and they must pay in advance for the month for a total of $160.00 pesos. If there is more interest, we will offer the classes on Mondays and Wednesdays at the same times.

A few retired teachers have offered their services and they are volunteering their time to help with this cause. This was initially offered to my staff members and their family. We are now in a position to offer these classes to others in the community. I currently have about 8 spaces left for the morning classes and about 5 spaces for the evening classes.

If you know of anyone who is interested or if you want to send someone to us, please contact me directly or that them contact me at tim@pvrpv.com or my cell number 044 322.135.6677.

At the end of each month, with the funds that are collected, we will as a group decide which organization we will donate to, that way every month a different charitable organization will benefit.

Next Thursday November 20th. will be the last opportunity to join this 12 week session. For more information please feel free to contact me or drop by our office.

In addition, the students do not need to buy anything for the classes as we are supplying them with everything they will require.

Spanish 101Spanish 101

Obviously an important part of every language, numbers in Spanish are easily learned and the use of the correct number will ensure you don't end up with a bucket of 48 (quarenta y ocho) cervezas when 3 (tres) will do the trick.

One - uno
Two - dos
Three - tres
Four - cuatro
Five - cinco
Six - seis
Seven - siete
Eight - ocho
Nine - nueve
Ten - diez
Eleven - once
Twelve - doce
Thirteen - treice
Fourteen - catorce
Fifteen - quince
Sixteen - diez y seis
Seventeen - diez y siete
Eighteen - diez y ocho
Nineteen - diez y nueve
Twenty - Veinte, 21 veintiuno, 22 veintidos, etc
Thirty - treinta, 31 treinta y uno, 32 treinta y dos, etc
Forty - cuarenta
Fifty - cincuenta
Sixty - sesenta
Seventy - setenta
Eighty - ochenta
Ninety - noventa
One Hundred - cien
One Thousand - mil

Here is a brief conversation using some numbers.

¿Cuánto cuesta una cerveza, señor?
How much for one beer, sir?
(Note that the word for 1 (one) has changed to UNA because cerveza (beer) is feminine. This is the only number that will change spelling depending on gender.)

Son las cuatro, la hora felíz es de cuatro a siete. Entonces la cerveza cuesta diez pesos. De ocho a media noche, la cerveza cuesta quince pesos.
It's four o'clock, happy hour is four to seven, so beer is ten pesos. From 8 to midnight beer is 15 pesos.

¡Perfécto! Quiero una cubeta con seis cervezas y mucho hielo, para mi y mis cuatros amigos, por favor.
Perfect! I want a bucket with six beers and lots of ice for me and my 4 friends, please.

Está bien señor, dame dos minutos.
Yes sir, give me two minutes.

Thank you

De nada
Your welcome
