Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco (MX) — October 19, 2010 — As the clock struck 2pm on Sunday, October 10th, two hundred caring Banderas Bay residents, tourists, generous sponsors and the dedicated firemen, firewomen and lifeguards packed the Fire Station on Avenida de las Americas for the inaugural Spaghetti friend-raiser to support and recognize the 90 brave first-responders of the Puerto Vallarta Fire Department.

“There was a joyful sense of purpose in the crowd who were all there to recognize these heroes who unselfishly put their own lives on the line to maintain order and ensure our safety” remarked Vallarta resident and Retired South San Francisco Fire Department Captain, Bert Ramirez.  “Society often fails to recognize and appreciate the dedication, sacrifice, vigilance, and effectiveness of its first-responders and this event provided the avenue to do just that”.

Guests, cheerfully and appreciatively greeted by the uniformed men and women, enjoyed the savory offerings of piping hot spaghetti, crisp green salad, mouth-watering chicken satay, freshly baked rolls, decadent desserts and a variety of beverages.  In addition to the great food, Jaime Vega entertained the guests with popular favorites while the firemen conducted special emergency demonstrations and provided tours of the facility.  A 50/50 drawing complemented the $31,000 pesos collected from the fundraiser.  Phil Schlosser was lucky winner of the drawing and graciously donated the cash prize back to the first-responders.

“The goal of our department is to provide quality service to the citizens, businesses and visitors of our community” remarked Lic. Hiram Fernández Abundis, Puerto Vallarta Fire Department Chief. “The generous donations of basic supplies and medical equipment received from the event is very much appreciated and will be invested wisely to enhance our ability to serve this wonderful City.”

“An event of this magnitude requires generous sponsors and we were blessed with just that” said Kelly Trainor of the US Consular Agency.  “Please patronize the following businesses who have generously donated to this worthwhile cause.” Villa Premiere Hotel and Spa, Buenaventura Grand Hotel and Spa, Daiquiri Dicks, Playa Los Arcos Hotel, Andale’s Restaurant/Andales on the Bay, Holiday Inn Puerto Vallarta, Howard Johnsons, Westin Resort and Spa, No Way Jose, Colleen’s Breakfast Café, Mediterranean Cafe and Bakery, PVRPV.com, Margaret Souder, Judith St Guadens, Apache’s Martini Bar and Bistro, Sheraton Buganvilias Resort and Convention Center, OXXO, COSTCO, Pasteleria Celebrations, Tsunami Restaurant, Instituto Franco Mexicano, Casserole Instituto, Dr. Max Greig, Bill Wortzel, Ed Alejandre Hospital Versalles and Fruteria de Billar.  Special thanks are also in order for Jill and Al Forster who transported several donated items down compliments of the Surrey British Columbia Fire Hall #11.
