PVRPV’s Summer Bowling League Celebrates Wrap Up Party!!!

Bowling is viewed by many as just a way for overweight, beer-drinking guys working dead-end nine to five jobs to blow off steam. This has caused it to be the butt of jokes and an object of satire on television and in movies. Of course, for those who enjoy bowling, the basis for this reputation might be part of its appeal. Although some might argue otherwise, bowling is a sport in that it involves physical exertion and competition.

After fifteen Wednesday’s, 25,000 frames and 260,305 pins knocked down, the PVRPV Summer Bowling League at Puerto Vallarta’s Bolerama has come to a successful end.  The fun, frivolity and friendship continued one last time (August 12, 2010) for the season-end recognition party at the very popular Café de Roma and our hosts Fox, Jorge, Juan Carlos and Edgar.

The evening started with a 50/50 raffle coordinated by master salesperson, Miguel Velázquez, who generated well over 3000 pesos.  1500 pesos were donated on behalf of the PVRPV League to Families at the Dump, an organization that began back in 2006 with the Developer of Paradise Village Resort to provide physical, educational, medical, spiritual and emotional support to the families living in the garbage dump and surrounding areas.  The additional 1500 pesos were eagerly presented to Bill Kelly.

Following the drawing, bowling awards were presented to:

PVRPV’s Summer League Last Bowling Night

Video by Ray Dion from www.promovisionpv.com

The final balls were thrown and pins knocked down last Wednesday at Bolerama Vallarta, as the first summer bowling league wrapped up. Lots of lofting balls coming down hard on the lanes, slow shots slowly knocking pins down as if in slow motion, curve shots that amazingly recovered from almost being in the gutter, we saw it all this summer! Lots of turkeys, lots of dancing, and at least one player sliding down the lane after his ball!

All in all a lot of fun was had by the 14 teams, 56 players, and numerous celebrity substitutes that all helped make the summer league a big success! A big thanks goes out to all the players who participated, Tim at PVRPV for his hard work on organizing, Alma and Miguel and Paloma of PVRPV for assisting every night, and especially to Edson and his team at Bolerama Vallarta, who kept the lanes working and drinks and snacks flowing week after week!

There was quite a bit of competition between several top players and teams, with the top positions being swapped a few times in the final weeks of the league. The top average recorded was an amazing 145.48 by John P Power and the top total pins was recorded by Angel Cocula with 5626, both with several players close behind. The top team knocked down over 20,000 pins! The names behind these amazing numbers will be announced at the big wrap up party on Wednesday!!!

The summer league wrap up party will be held next Wednesday at our usual bowling time of 7pm, downtown in Centro at Café Roma, beside the Rio Cuale. There will be awards and prizes handed out to many of the players. Please RSVP to Tim at tim@pvrpv.com or Paloma at info@pvrpv.com right away if you have not done so already! Bowlers and subs who played 3 or more times get in free and for non-players and bowling fans tickets are only $100 pesitos! Juice, beer and pizza is included! 100% of the money raised in the 50/50 draw will be used at the party!!!

A lot of talent was shown during the summer, and many top players are continuing on to the winter league starting in October. Please contact Tim at tim@pvrpv.com or Paloma at info@pvrpv.com if you are interested in participating!

See you all at the big wrap up party! Chuza! Chuza! Chuza!!!

PVRPV’s Summer Bowling League Highlights – Marina Vallarta

pvrpv_logo_bowling

Hello Bowlers,

Well it was another successful evening of bowling. We did have about 9 players absent but we had a lot of enthusiastic substitute players ready to go and step in to play in their place.

Here are some highlights from last night:

  • Some players were so excited about their new look with their fancy bowling shoes that they almost left with them on. Roland from *Pin JOCKS* and Armando from *The Fantastic 4* if you really need another pair of shoes maybe Edson would be willing to give you a discount on a new pair.
  • Miguel had another successful night of selling 50/50 tickets and was able to sell $2790.00 pesos. The 50% was won by Armando Sanchez from *The Fantastic 4* with a total of $1395.00 Pesos. Remember the other 50% will be used for prizes and our final bowling party. Thank you again Miguel for such a great job.

  • If you want to see the MOON walk next week just come on down and see Juan Carlos from *The Bowling Stones* perform it for you after he gets a strike. This is something you do not want to miss. Make sure to come before the end of the second game because there were no strikes in sight for him in the last game.
  • Steve Snyder from *The Sonics* who was our TOP bowler last week could be seen jumping up and down as he received a spare and a strike. Steve I am happy to report that you have now moved up from 56 to 55th place in the overall individual score.
  • The accounting team also known as *THE DRINK TEAM* was seen at the counter at the end of the night receiving a lesson on how to document points and complete the documents. They wanted to be prepared so they could audit our total score cards at the end of each evening. Guys sorry leave your accounting hats at the office this is about having fun 
  • John Powers from *AMIGAS* our overall TOP Player of the League was seen handing out TSHIRTS to all his team players. Wow he certainly came prepared.
  • My understanding is that Lynn from the *Pins in Paradise* finger is hurting her today. Lynn are you sure you holding the ball properly?
  • Yes it was hot last night in the bowling alley. Edson has promised that he will have it fixed for next week. He will also be working on lane number 5 and looking into getting the balls re-sanded and fixed. Edson we are counting on you!!!!!!
  • The line seemed to move faster last night and Alma again thank you for your volunteering to do the attendance and helping out at the counter to get things moving faster.
  • Thank you to Philippa, Elfren, Cindy, Randy, Kathryn, Tan, James, Arlene, and Victor for coming out last night to substitute for us. Remember if you are available for any particular week please send me an email.
  • Lori Lorenzen came by last night to check it out and by the end of the second game, she told me “I am in, call me anytime you need a player!”
  • By looking at the scores below for each TEAM you will notice there is a lot of movements in positions.
  • Looking over the overall individual scores you will also notice some movements in the ranking. Gabriel, from *The Fantastic 4* going out and practicing obviously paid off for you as your new rank went from 28 to 27.

Explanation of the Scores.

TEAMS:

  • Every time you win a game you receive 1 Point. There is a total of 3 points available just for winning the games.
  • The bonus point is given to the TEAM that has the highest Pin Count for the overall 3 games.
  • Therefore, each game has available 4 potential points to be won.
  • Your total Pin Count is accumulated for your TEAM.
  • If there are 2 teams that received 4 points the TEAM with the highest Total Pins points will place ahead of the other team.
  • The total placement is based on Total Win Points and then Total Pins points in order of highest score.

PVRPV’s Summer Bowling League in Puerto Vallarta

pvrpv_logo_bowling

Wednesday May 5th, kicked off the beginning of our 14 week Bowling league and what a fun evening it was…..

As the players in the 14 teams lined up to find out which lane they were going to be playing in and then proceed to make their payment, there was a lot of excitement and enthusiasm from everyone who stood patiently in line.

Of the 56 players who committed to play for the 14 weeks (in addition to the substitutes),  quite of few of our players have never set foot in a bowling alley, or for others, it had been so many years since they had bowled, however as the evening unraveled,  I looked around and it was amazing to see that everyone seemed to be making their own fun within their teams, where as some other players took the opportunity to mix and mingle with the players from the other teams.

This 14 week bowling event brings a lot of people together in one location, and it will be great opportunity to meet new people and make new friends.

For a lot of us, it is a night out, an opportunity to bond with our teammates and at the same time, we are helping out our community that we live in, this great City called Puerto Vallarta, our little paradise.

For those of us who are foreigners, we are very fortunate to be able to be part of this community and what a better way to show the community that we all care for our great city, by contributing and at the same time, having fun.

Written by Lina Longpré

Some Highlights from Wednesday night:

  • Arturo Calderon was the lucky winner of $1230.00 Pesos in the 50/50 draw.  So with our first week we raised $1230.00 pesos towards our Banquet Party at the end of the tournament.  We will be buying different prizes for different categories (And not the categories you might be thinking of).  A special thank you to Miguel from PVRPV for volunteering to do the selling of the 50/50 tickets.
  • Alma from PVRPV was in charge of attendance.  Thank you everyone for coming on time.  Little did she know she would be working at a bowling alley and collecting monies, giving out shoes and even charging a credit card payment using the system.  (She just looked at me and said I used to work at the front desk of a hotel so I still remember how to use it. )
  • Alejandro from *The Sonics* was the first bowler to get a Turkey, which of course is 3 strikes in a row.  The *Pin Yaddas* came up to me and indicated that they had won the first Chicken.  When I asked Charlotte what that was she indicated that they were the first team to get 3 spares in a row.  Sorry Charlotte, not one of the rules in Vallarta!!!!!! 
  • The *Drink Team* was the first team to show up to bowling with very fancy T-shirts.  Wow, I am sure they will have an incredible bowling team picture.
  • The *Pacifico Lovers* was the team that got the first strike after my announcement about winning a drink for each team members.  Thank you Gary Green and Andales on the Bay.
  •  The *Pins in Paradise* is definitely the Team to look out for this tournament.   The total score was 984 with an average score of 82 points.  Do not be fooled by their first game or their great looks because I am positive they will be showing different results next week.
  • *Amigas* were the highest scoring team.  No wonder, as Gloria from their team came with her own ball, shoes and a towel to clean off her ball before she threw each shot.  Well Gloria, you certainly looked good but you were not the highest scoring player, that award goes to: John Powers from your team with an average of 151.67 points.
  • Luis Enrique from the *Pacifico Lovers* and Gary Green from the *Split and Swallow* were tied with a 147 point average for second place.
  • Steve Snyder from *The Sonics* was the overall winner “If we were playing Golf” for last night with an average score of 64.33 points.

PVRPV presents the “Summer Bowling League” here in Puerto Vallarta

bowling pics

Do you get bored during the long, hot summer months here in Vallarta? Do you want to get together with friends and co-workers? Do you want to have some fun?  Want to laugh? Want to be in air conditioning? This might be the sport for you…

I am in the starting stage of planning a Summer Bowling League and looking for fun people to join the league.  No you do not have to be a pro, matter of fact we do not even care if you are good – the only requirement is that you want to have fun!

Bowling night will take place at Collage Club on Wednesday nights at 7:00pm until around 9:00pm.  The cost will be approximately $120 pesos per week, which will include your games and rental shoes.  We will not be assigning a handicap or anything professional, this is about having fun!

What I need is for you to send me an email at tim@pvrpv.com with the full name and email address of each person interested in joining.  We require teams of 4 so get 3 of your friends or co-workers together and send me the list.  If you are not able to get enough people interested do not worry… we will assign you to a team.   Remember this is about a night out and having fun!

I will be ready to go with a starting date and further information once I receive all the emails back.  Please respond no later than this coming Friday, April 16th.
