As the ghouls and goblins retire from tonight’s Halloween activities, The Dog House prepares for its first anniversary on Thursday with specials and free give-a-ways.

Among a dizzying swath of restaurants in Puerto Vallarta, The Dog House has quickly become a favorite with locals and visitors.  The glowing finger-lickin’ good testimonials have skyrocketed on TripAdvisor and have rewarded The Dog House proprietors and friendly staff as one of  “The Top Three” eateries around the Bay.

In celebration of the one year anniversary, both Dog House locations, Ignacio L. Vallarta 237 (in front of Paco’s Ranch) and Pino Saurez 212 (next to PVRPV), will be offering TWO-FOR-ONE mouth-watering -sweet chorizo and smoky polish sausage  to the first 100 customers.  In addition, guests “checking in” to their favorite social networking sites on Thursday will receive a limited edition tote bag bearing the popular Dog House logo.

PV litter clean up NOV 14TH your invited!

As a travel destination and our home Puerto Vallarta’s most valuable asset is the amazing natural beauty. To compete for tourism and preserve the environment and our own quality of life we need care for our home you can help, the next highway clean up will be November 14th 2012, the previous in July was a wonderful success and a very small group of volunteers were able to accomplish an impressive clean up of 6 km of highway filling over 45 jumbo garbage bags with trash that would have ended up in the ocean this time we are going to clean the entire highway from town to Mismaloya. We welcome all volunteers, property owners and are optimistic that the new city hall will help make this work.

WHERE: HIGHWAY 200, from the Pemex Station in town to Mismaloya
VOLUNTEERS: Meet at the PEMEX station near town
PROPERTY BUSINESS OWNERS: we ask you and your staff to clean the larea 500 meters on either side of your property and leave in the designated garbage pick-up spot. We have a truck and will pick up and dispose of the trash. At 12 noon approx.
It is proven that an area free of garbage and graffiti is most likely not to attract trash, graffiti and crime, making for higher property values, more tourism and a stronger economy. We all benefit from a clean environment, from our personal health to our overall happiness.
Thank you

PEACE’s Action for Food program hits the ground running in Puerto Vallarta

We are excited to announce the launch of the PEACE Action for Food program in Puerto Vallarta!

The PEACE “PV Protectores Action for Food” program is funded  by the proceeds from the PEACE Puerto Vallarta Home Tours, an initiative run completely by volunteers.

Attendance for the tours was up 12% last season and the tours grossed over $250,000 pesos which was banked until September (or Septihambre as it’s known locally because it’s the month when hunger is at its highest being the slowest month of the year in tourism) at which time the new Action for Food program was started that tour funds support.

Action for Food is a program where people living in some of the poorest colonias in the Vallarta area meet with members of PEACE and identify work projects in their community such as removing graffiti from buildings, cleaning trash, painting schools, weeding public areas, etc.  Two hours of volunteering on the project gives each person a food basket containing 10 meals.

Here are the numbers from the beginning of the program in September. It has been widely successful!

  • Total number of participants: 48
  • Estimated number of people benefited: 200
  • Neighborhoods worked in: Paso Ancho & Col. Buenos Aires.

The population is responding very well. We have more people asking to be participants than we can currently afford to support, which is our incentive for growing the tours.

Tours will resume on Tuesday, November 20th and will end on March 26th  although we’ll be closed on December 25th and January 1st.  We hope to increase ticket sales once again this season so we’re able to help even more of those in need.
