English and Spanish Classes VS Food Drive – Clases de Ingles y Español contra Impulso Alimenticio

First of all, we would like to thank all of the students who attended English and Spanish classes offered at the PVRPV office since December 2008. We would also like to send out a special “Thank You” to all the volunteer teachers. Your time and effort was truly appreciated and you have made a great difference in the community and in the lives of those who attended these classes. Please note, at this time, we are only offering Spanish classes and hopefully the English classes will resume again in the fall.

Below is the total money that has been donated by all of the students who have attended these classes:

• $16,830.00 pesos for English Classes
• $4000.00 pesos for Spanish Classes
• Total: $20,830.00 pesos raised for charity

We, at PVRPV have decided to participate and purchase food for the below Banderas Bay Food Drive with the money raised for charity. We would definitely not of been able to accomplish this without the donations from the students and without the wonderful endless hours of the volunteer teachers.

If you are not aware of the current situation or the current Banderas Food Drive please read the below email which was sent out last week. Please note, our office is one of the drop off locations in the Banderas Bay area, for the food drive.

Once the email was sent out, in only 2 days we have received over:

• 200 bags of rice = 100,000 grams of rice
• 120 bags of pasta = 27,800 grams of pasta
• 37 boxes of Knorr = 864 cubs of Knorr
• 66 bags of beans = 66 kg of beans
• 65 bags of lentils = 65 kg of lentils

If you are thinking about making a donation, the organizers of the food drive have asked specifically and would greatly appreciated the following items:

• Beans (dried, packaged, not canned)
• Rice
• Lentils (dried)
• Bouillon Cubes (consume cubes)
• Pasta (dried, soup pasta packaged)

Our goal is to be able to make up food packages for more than 600 families in our community. With 1 package of each of the above, we will be able to feed 2 adults and 2 children for 1 week.

So far, we are in need of more Beans, Lentils and Bouillon Cubes in order to complete the first batch of packages for this Friday, May 29th, 2009.

Please note, our office is one of the drop off locations for the food drive.

In order to support this community, we would like to ask our customers, our owners and friends of PVRPV to support and help us with the Banderas Bay Food Drive. The food drive will continue in Puerto Vallarta over the course summer.

Please share this email with as many of your friends as possible. Together we can all make a difference. If you have clients coming to your units please share link with them as well.

En primer lugar, queremos agradecer a todos los estudiantes que asistieron a clases de Inglés y de español ofrecidas en la oficina de PVRPV desde diciembre de 2008. También nos gustaría enviar un mensaje especial de “Gracias” a todos los profesores voluntarios. Su tiempo y esfuerzo es verdaderamente apreciado y han hecho una gran diferencia en la comunidad y en las vidas de las personas que asistieron a estas clases. Por favor tengan en cuenta, que en este momento, sólo estamos ofreciendo clases de español y es de esperar que las clases de Inglés se reanudarán de nuevo en el otoño.

A continuación se muestra el total de dinero que ha sido donado por todos los estudiantes que han asistido a estas clases:

• $ 16,830.00 pesos para Clases de Inglés
• $ 4,000.00 pesos por clases de español
• Total: $ 20,830.00 pesos recaudados para la caridad

Nosotros, en PVRPV hemos decidido participar y comprar alimentos para el Impulso de Alimentos de la Bahía de Banderas con el dinero recaudado para la caridad. Nosotros definitivamente no hubiésemos sido capaces de lograr esto sin las donaciones de los estudiantes y sin las maravillosas horas interminables de los profesores voluntarios.

Si no son conscientes de la situación actual o del actual Impulso Alimenticio de la Bahía de Banderas, por favor lea el siguiente correo electrónico que se envió la semana pasada. Por favor tenga en cuenta que nuestra oficina es una de las ubicaciones dónde se estarán recibiendo alimentos para la recaudación del Impulso de la Bahía de Banderas. .

Una vez enviado el correo electrónico, en sólo 2 días hemos recibido más de:

• 200 sacos de arroz = 100,000 gramos de arroz
• 120 bolsas de pasta = 27.800 gramos de pasta
• 37 cajas de Knorr = 864 cachorros de Knorr
• 66 sacos de frijoles = 66 kg de frijoles
• 65 sacos de lentejas = 65 kg de lentejas

Si está pensando en hacer una donación, los organizadores de la unidad de alimentos han pedido específicamente y con mucho aprecio los siguientes artículos:

• Frijoles (secos, empacados, no enlatados)
• Arroz
• Lentejas (secas)
• Cubitos de Consomé
• Pasta (secos, sopa de pasta empaquetada)

Nuestro objetivo es ser capaces de compensar los paquetes de alimentos para más de 600 familias en nuestra comunidad. Con 1 paquete de cada uno de los mencionados artículos, podremos alimentar a 2 adultos y 2 niños durante lo largo de 1 semana.

Hasta el momento, estamos en necesidad de más frijoles, lentejas y Cubitos de Consomé, con el fin de completar la primera serie de paquetes para este viernes, 29 de Mayo de 2009.

Where is the food going for the Banderas Bay Food Drive? – ¿A dónde se va el alimento recaudado para el Impulso Alimenticio de la Bahía de Banderas?

We are working with the Head of Child Protection Services in Coapinole. This office runs prevention programs for children who are at risk. The following children attend a group session EVERY WEEK in the following areas:

1) Street Kid Rehabilitation centre (they are ok for food we are not collecting for them)

2) Pregnant Teens – these young girls are between the ages of 11-18 who have one or more child (ren); the program provides sexual education and an opportunity for the Health Department to monitor these young mothers and their babies. They provide vaccinations, other health and hygiene talks. There are currently 82 girls in the program.

3) Working Kids – these are the children who bag food in the supermarkets, sell flower and gum, clean buses etc – there are currently 146 kids in the program.

4) 10-14 program are children between the ages of 10-14 that have been excluded or have never attended primary school – an open school is run in Coapinole – there are 42 kids enrolled in this program.

5) Kids who have parents in prison who are living with relatives – there are currently 56 children enrolled in this program.

6) Kids at Risk – there are currently 349 children listed who DIF believe will end up on to the streets next

ALL THESE CHILDREN ARE REGISTERED WITHIN THE SOCIAL SERVICES SYSTEM AS KIDS WHO ARE AT RISK. We are planning to distribute the food packages we are preparing to some of these children within their own respective groups. The DIF people who will be in the groups all work for child protection services.

Estamos trabajando con la persona a cargo de Servicios de Protección a Menores en Coapinole. En esta oficina llevan a cabo programas preventivos para menores en riesgo. Los menores de cada programa atienden al grupo CADA SEMANA en uno de las siguientes áreas:

1) Centro de rehabilitación para niños de la calle (ellos están bien de alimentos, no se estará recolectando para ellos)

2) Adolecentes embarazadas– estas niñas están entre los 11 – 18 años que tienen uno o más niños, este programa provee educación sexual y la oportunidad al Departamento de Salud de monitorear a estas madres adolecentes y sus bebes. Se les proveen vacunas y platicas sobre Salud e Higiene. Actualmente hay 82 niñas en este programa.

3) Menores trabajadores – Estos son niños que trabajan como cerillos en los Centros Comerciales, venden flores y dulces, limpian autobuses etc- Actualmente hay 146 menores en este programa.

4) El programa de 10-14 años trabaja con niños dentro de esta edad que han sido excluidos o que nunca han asistido a la Escuela Primaria – Una Escuela con sistema educativo abierto se conduce en Coapinole – Actualmente hay 42 menores en este programa.

5) Menores que tienen a sus padres en prisión y que están viviendo con sus familiares- Actualmente hay 56 menores en este programa.

6) Menores en Riesgo – Actualmente hay 349 menores registrados que DIF considera podrían terminar en las calles

TODOS ESTOS MENORES ESTAN REGISTRADOS DENTRO DEL SISTEMA DE SERVICIO SOCIAL COMO MENORES EN RIESGO; Todos asisten a sus reuniones semanales, siendo a ellos a los que planeamos distribuir estas despensas dentro de sus grupos. Las personas del DIF que están atendiendo los grupos forman parte del Servicio de Protección a Menores – No habrá nadie directamente del DIF.
