Lepe Father/Daughter Benefit Exhibit, December 10, 4-6

An invitation from our friends, in case you’re in town during this exciting event:

Puerto Vallarta Friends,
You and anyone you care to share this invitation with are invited to join us for an afternoon reception December 10 from 4-6 at the new Casa de las Flores. We’ll be finished with our remodel AND we are opening our on-site art gallery, Galeria Habana Vallarta, with a special benefit exhibit:
The 15 Hidden Treasures of Manuel Lepe

The works of the famous Vallarta artist are from the private collection of Marcella Lepe, the artist’s daughter, and most have been out of circulation since Manuel Lepe’s death 20 years ago. One painting was just selected to be part of this year’s UNICEF holiday card series. Collector’s of Lepe’s works include: Queen Elizabeth, Fidel Castro, Elizabeth Taylor, and Peter O’Toole. For his work, Lepe was named National Painter of Mexico by President Luis Echeverria.
100% of the proceeds from the sale of Lepe paintings will benefit the reconstruction of the Lepe Children’s Art Studio and Museum. You can preview paintings at manuellepe.net. Naif paintings by Marcella Lepe and other artists from Puerto Vallarta and La Habana will also be on exhibit.
Feel free to share the attached invite with anyone who might be interested.
RSVP – 322-120-5242.

Off the beaten path….

Puerto Vallarta tourists tend to return time and time again. That means they are always seeking to explore new areas of Puerto Vallarta to find restaurants and shops that the average first-time visitor might not make it to or hear about. So, we’ll fill you in, from time to time, on what’s new and what’s hot among the locals and expats “in the know”.

One very happening spot is on Lazaro Cardenas about 8 blocks from the beach. It’s called El Colera and it offers some of the best priced, best tasting ceviche, shrimp tostadas and seafood soups you’ll ever taste. The atmosphere is old Mexico, with a jukebox (still 1 peso per song) and friendly customers. Many of the customers on a recent visit were construction workers who dropped their tool belts next to their chairs and ordered up a Michelada (iced beer with lime and spices). YUM! Here are a few pics of El Colera.

El Colera is at Lázaro Cárdenas #542 on the southside of Puerto Vallarta.

Picture contest entries start to arrive…

“Four Kids” by Thomas Donlan

This young man was entertaining for tips on a Bucerias bus. He appeared happy, and could belt out “Cielito Lindo”, accompanied by his father. If you will take a look at his well-worn guitar, he has taken the liberty of attaching a few stickers, for good luck, and just for being a “kid”. He and his father were similarly attired. Keep sending your pics, we love them! (photo and description: Thomas Donlan)

Help is on the Way

As many of you know, funding for public schools, is a low priority for local government. Many students do not even have pencils, pens and note books with which to copy their lessons. PVRPV is again accepting donations of school supplies at our office, which will be distributed to needy classrooms throughout the city. Make a bit of room in your luggage and fill it with supplies, bring it to our office and together we can give a child a brighter future.

Some items of importance include:

Pens, pencils, lined note books, rulers, erasers, pencil crayons, math sets and of course back packs. All donations are desperately needed and warmly welcomed.

Philanthropy Continues

Hook For The Cure benefits the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation

Puerto Vallarta was the destination for anglers and golfers who participated in this years BJ’s Restaurants Hook for The Cure tournament.

The third week of October brought two dozen boats and over 30 teams to the beautiful waters of the Bay of Banderas and reeled in a whopping $450,000.00. In three years Hook for the Cure has raised over $1’000,000.00 for Cystic Fibrosis, a disease affecting over 40,000 Americans and Mexicans.

Local host Villa Premier Hotel and Spa once again was the home for all participants and PVRPV provided the volunteers for the event.

Plans are underway for the Fourth Annual Hook for the Cure slated for November 5 – 8 2009. For more information visit http://www.hookthecure.org/ or visit our offices.

As most of you are aware PVRPV has always been involved in many different charities over the past years in Vallarta. This year, we have come up with a new way of raising funds for local charities. English Classes will be offered to Mexicans and the classes will take place in our new office.

At this time, the classes are being offered Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8:30am to 9:30am or from 6:00pm to 7:00pm. The total cost is $20.00 pesos per class and they must pay in advance for the month for a total of $160.00 pesos. If there is more interest, we will offer the classes on Mondays and Wednesdays at the same times.

A few retired teachers have offered their services and they are volunteering their time to help with this cause. This was initially offered to my staff members and their family. We are now in a position to offer these classes to others in the community. I currently have about 8 spaces left for the morning classes and about 5 spaces for the evening classes.

If you know of anyone who is interested or if you want to send someone to us, please contact me directly or that them contact me at tim@pvrpv.com or my cell number 044 322.135.6677.

At the end of each month, with the funds that are collected, we will as a group decide which organization we will donate to, that way every month a different charitable organization will benefit.

Next Thursday November 20th. will be the last opportunity to join this 12 week session. For more information please feel free to contact me or drop by our office.

In addition, the students do not need to buy anything for the classes as we are supplying them with everything they will require.
