About San Pancho...
The locals call it San Pancho, foreigners call it San Fransisco...I call it the ultimate Mexican get away destination. Escape the street vendors, the beach peddlers and the hustle and bustle of the Malecon. This is not San Francisco, USA this is truly paradise.
Take the 31 mile drive north from the airport, under an hour and no disappointments here. If you are looking for some private time, find a secluded villa off the beaten trail with views that will melt the toughest heart. Words cannot describe the natural beauty of this picturesque little village.
San Pancho some twenty years ago was known for it's coffee and coco bean plantations. Today it is becoming known world wide for it's reasonably priced private villas that rent to those who just want to enjoy the splendor of mother nature. The beach in town is long and flat, constantly changing from the crash of a sometimes tumultuous turf. This sleepy little town is known for its "big, gnarly waves, dude," purported by some surfers to be the best on the west coast of Mexico.
You won't be pestered by vendor's here but you will find an increasing number of cool shops in the core of the town along with some nice little cafes and some fine dining. Downtown you'll find locals peddling their wares, a weekly market in the town square and more authentic Mexican charm than you can imagine. This is not your typical Mexican tourist town, this is a Mexican experience.
As you travel along the hilly, steep dirt roads to the north you will be pleasantly surprised by some awe inspiring villas. These getaways feature private beaches, grounds keepers that live on site, kayaks and canoes and some are tucked away in little coves where you can anchor your boat and leave the outside world behind. You'll want to rent a car if you plan to get in and out of town. If you don't want to bother stay on site...let the staff pamper you. Bring the kids and cut them loose in your private paradise.
Some are not aware but this rugged jungle to the north of San Pancho is where most of the movie Predator was actually shot. El Eden, located in Missmaloya was the site of only a small part of this Arnold Schwarzenegger classic.
For a truly unique experience and a totally relaxing holiday not soon to be forgotten, take in San Pancho and get back to mother nature.
